Maroon Bells Winter Engagement Session

Maroon Bells Winter Engagement Session

The Riley's

his winter engagement session at Maroon Bells in Colorado was less about convenience and more about commitment. During the winter months, the road to Maroon Bells is completely closed, turning one of the most photographed locations in the country into true backcountry terrain. To reach it, we skied nearly 10 miles round trip, carrying camera gear, layers, and enough patience to let the mountains set the pace.

That effort changed everything. With no shuttle buses, no crowds, and no footprints in the snow, we had Maroon Bells entirely to ourselves. Something that would be impossible during the summer months. The stillness was total. Just snow, wind moving through the aspens, and the peaks reflecting soft winter light. The result was an engagement session that felt quiet, intentional, and deeply personal.

Winter engagement photos at Maroon Bells offer a completely different experience than the iconic summer version. The frozen lake, snow-covered trails, and empty landscape create a sense of scale and solitude that you simply cannot replicate any other time of year. This session was not rushed. We skied in, waited for the light, and let the environment shape the story instead of forcing it.

For couples who value adventure, privacy, and experiences that feel earned, a winter engagement session like this becomes more than photos. It becomes a shared memory. One that starts long before the camera comes out and stays long after the skis come off.
